For which tasks (responsibilities)?

We are looking for a 3D Character Artist to join our talented team in creating the highest quality, kick-ass characters for our current and future ААА games.

Working together with the art leads, designers, and animators, the character artist is responsible for creating visually stunning 3d characters and interactive gameplay models that both closely capture the “look” and artistic style of the concept art, as well as efficiently satisfy all technical engine and animation requirements.

Our candidate deeply understands sculptural forms, anatomy, as well as knowledge and is able to work in a wide range of artistic styles. Great attention to detail and strong technical and artistic ability to solve problems are equally important for the post.

Job Responsibilities

  • Creation of character models according to given concepts or references (High, Mid and Low-poly);

  • Creation of both realistic and stylized characters for the AAA project;

  • Sculpt/model high poly models, low poly models, UVs, bake maps, create high quality textures

  • Match the required art style of a project

  • Cooperate with other artists to streamline the art creation process

  • Work with team lead to create a plan and schedule

  • Build high quality game ready characters using contemporary workflows for a Unreal game

  • Author realistic, futuristic, and sometimes space magic textures for multiple shader functions for PBR, such as albedo, normal, roughness, metal, and detail maps

  • Incorporate technical, artistic, basic understanding of animation, and knowledge of character design into asset creation

  • Sculpt and model compelling, 3D characters, according to the game style and art direction;

  • Create additional character assets such as hair, accessories, armor, weapons, etc.;

  • Texture the characters and character assets;

  • Create convincing materials, reflecting the art direction of the project;

  • Deliver clean and optimized low polygon models, and efficient UV layouts according to the project’s technical requirements;

  • Think creatively, and search for relevant references from various sources, to solve daily artistic challenges;

What kind of professional are we looking for?

Required Skills

  • 4+ years games industry experience

  • Strong sculpting, modeling and texturing skills

  • Strong knowledge of 3dsMax/Maya, ZBrush and/or Mudbox

  • Extensive experience with texturing in Substance painter/Quixel Suite and Photoshop (desirably)

  • Good understanding of color, shape, scale, silhouette, proportion n regard to modeling;

  • A well-rounded understanding of human and animal anatomy, form, shape, structure, and proportions;

  • Strong understanding of game character creation (retopology for ideal rigging deformation and to convincingly support normal maps)

  • Well-presented portfolio showing relevant work examples and process

  • Strong communication skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment

  • Full understanding of the character art pipeline and to work with other departments to create efficiencies

  • Ability to adapt to different artistic styles;

  • Ability to absorb, apply and give constructive feedback;

  • A passion in creating great games

    Nice To Have

  • Experience with Substance Designer, Substance Painter, and Marvelous Designer

  • Experience with Unreal 4 Engine

  • ААA game development experience as a Character Artist

  • 3+ years experience with industry standard applications: Zbrush, Maya/Max/Modo, X-Gen, Photoshop, 3D Coat, Mari, Substance Painter and Marvelous Designer

  • Ability to adapt to multiple art styles.

  • Understanding of Rigging/Animation a plus

  • Traditional drawing and sculpting skills;

  • Art education;
